Alleging that the Telangana government was indulging in character assassination, Andhra Pradesh Finance Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu today reminded that governments had fallen in phone tapping cases.
He was speaking to the media at the end of the AP cabinet meeting held today that lasted five hours. Later, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu left for Delhi.
Giving details of the cabinet meeting, Yanamala said that the cabinet had decided not to leave the officials who were involved in tapping the phone of CM Naidu. The party would demand that the Centre implement Section 8 effectively.
The cabinet also decided to take action against the Telangana government, and felt that the Governor should initiate action in this regard, he said.
Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu would call on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Rajnath Singh during his Delhi visit on this issue, Yanamala said.
The minister reminded that governments had fallen in the past due to phone tapping episodes, and said that the TDP government would inform the Centre about its opinion on Section 8 of the A P Reorganisation Act.
Phone tapping amounted to character assassination of an individual and it was against the constitution, he stated.
The Telangana government and the ACB should come out with facts as to who was behind the work of releasing tapes stating that they contained tapped telephonic conversations of Chandrababu Naidu, he demanded.
The TDP would not keep quiet at any such move that could damage the prestige of the party president, he said. (NSS)
