Renovation work on the Charminar masjid is progressing at a brisk pace, with the inner arches of the monument getting a chemical wash and the damaged stucco getting a cement coat.
The repeated representation made earlier to the Archeological Survey of India, regarding the damaged stucco work in the 4-minaret masjid built by Sultan Mohammed Quli Qutub Shah was not acted upon.
Also, the repair was avoided on the pretext of "insufficient budget" and "dearth of experts".
However work began in November, and is scheduled to be completed within a month.
A 6-member team of experts belonging to Tamilnadu, led by Ravi Chandra, is working on the renovation project.
After the merger of Hyderabad, the ASI closed the doors of this historical mosque for Muslims.
