The Rural Electrification Corporation of the Government of India has assured funding to a tune of Rs. 20,000 crores for the projects of Telangana's GENCO, TRANSCO and DISCOMs.
REC Chairman and Managing Director Rajeev Sharma along with GENCO CMD D Prabhakar Rao called on Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao at the Secretariat on Tuesday. The Chief Minister expressed his thanks to the REC CMD, and upon the CM's suggestion, the REC CMD agreed to fund all of GENCO's projects, too.
The Chief Minister also discussed the power scenario with both of them. He told the GENCO CMD that the present available production capacity of less than 5000 MW of power needed to be increased through long-term, short-term and medium-term strategies.
The GENCO CMD told the Chief Minister that the State would get 2800 MW of additional power by the end of next year from 3 sources. He told the Chief Minister that when this was made available, the deficiency would be overcome, and the extra power that is likely to be generated in the future would turn surplus.
Principal Secretary to the CM S Narsing Rao and Principal Secretary (Finance) Nagi Reddy were also present in the meeting. (INN)
