As expected, senior Congress leader from Kurnool C Rambhupal Chowdhry rejoined the Telugu Desam Party he had quit 26 years ago, along with over 1,000 of his followers, on Tuesday.
Speaking on the occasion, TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu said that he was welcoming Chowdhry with open arms back into his party.
The TDP chief also said that Chowdhry's homecoming was on expected lines since the Congress was turning into a party of corrupt leaders.
Earlier, Chowdhry had said that he was among the founders of the TDP and had been associated with it since the days of its inception. He said that he was the first to hoist the party flag in Kurnool district. He also said that former chief minister and TDP founder late N T Rama Rao had chosen him to contest on a party ticket for the state assembly, after seeing his dedication to the party.
The senior politician said that he had quit the TDP due to some "misunderstandings" that had cropped up at that time.
He said that it has taken him 26 years to come back to his 'home', and that it had taken him such a long time to realise his mistake of leaving the party.
Chowdhry said that he had felt like a 'use-and-throw' object when he was in the Congress, since the party only remembered him just before the elections and utilised his services, and discarded and neglected him after each election. He said his feelings were hurt, with such an attitude shown towards him.
Chowdhry also requested the TDP chief not to enter into any electoral pact with any other party. He appealed to Naidu to name candidates from persons dedicated to the TDP.
