The Central Crime Station police today interrogated eminent film director Ram Gopal Varma for four hours over his "God, Sex And Truth" short film following a complaint lodged by a social activist Devi.
The police also seized a laptop of Varma and issued him a notice to appear for quizzing again on Friday.
Speaking to the media later, DCP Raghuveer said that Varma had said that he had only given the concept for the film, and had not directed or released it. Varma had also told the police that an American production house had produced the film, and that he hadn't taken any remuneration for it. He challenged the media to prove that he took any money from the film producers, Raghuveer said.
Varma also claimed that he haddn't violated any Indian laws. "I didn't chide social activist Devi intentionally - it turned into a dispute in the course of our exchange of words," he had said, Raghuveer said.
Raghuveer also said that they had collected information on some technical issues from Varma. The director had told the police that the film was shot in Poland and the UK, and the police were verifying whether he had gone to those countries or not.
Varma had sought time to answer some more questions, the DCP said.
It is learnt that the police lost their cool due to Varma's rigid attitude. The interrogation started at 12 noon and ended at 4 pm.
