Heavy rains lashed various parts of Hyderabad today, resulting in serious inconvenience to the people and plenty of water-logging.
Most of the city received about 5 cm of rain, with Madhapur getting 12 cm. Khairatabad, Tank Bund, Koti, L B Nagar, Begum Bazar, Abids, Charminar, Nampally, Basheer Bagh, Liberty, Himayat Nagar, Lakdi Ka Pul and Sultan Bazar are among the places that suffered. At Krishna Nagar near Yousufguda a Durga pandal was washed away in the rainwater, and a petrol bunk's top slab collapsed due to the heavy rain in Toli Chowki.
In general, it poured heavily enough for GHMC Commissioner Dana Kishore to suggest to the people that they come out of their houses only if necessary. The GHMC officials alerted the emergency teams, and Kishore is personally reviewing the situation continuously.
The forecast for Thursday, when the city celebrates Vijayadasami, isn't too cheerful either - heavy rains and thunder are predicted towards the evening, and dark rain clouds are hovering over the city. Heavy rains are in general forecast for southern Telangana districts.
