Terming the ruling TRS as the B-team of the BJP, Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday called upon the people of Telangana to vote for the grand alliance (Praja Front / Mahakootami) in the upcoming Telangana Assembly elections if they desired welfare and development.
Addressing a massive public meeting in Khammam town along with AP Chief Minister and TDP national president N Chandrababu Naidu, Gandhi said that the winds of change were in favour of the Congress in the state, and that the excitement being displayed by the people at the Mahakootami rallies was a clear indication that they were against the ruling TRS.
Gandhi said that KCR's family members got jobs in Telangana at the cost of jobs to hundreds and thousands of its unemployed youth. He also said that while the KCR family was on one side, the farmers, students, unemployed youth and women were on the other.
Alleging a covert tie-up between the the TRS and the BJP, Gandhi said, "It isn't a coincidence that KCR has never questioned the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his failure to deliver on the election promises made by the BJP. The TRS is just the B-team of Modi in the state. We will first defeat the B-team and then focus on the A-team - the BJP at the Centre."
Gandhi also said that the grand alliance, after forming the government in the state, would show the way to the entire country.
Addressing the gathering, TDP president Chandrababu Naidu won the hearts of the public with his speech. He said that Telangana would always hold a special place in his heart wherever he was. Dismissing the allegations being made against him by KCR as baseless, he claimed that he had never obstructed the development of Telangana. He said that the people of Telangana had showered a lot of love on him, and that he would never hurt them in any way.
Promising to stand by the people of the Telangana, Naidu reminded the public that he was the one who had laid the foundation stones for the Devadula, Alimineti Madhava Reddy and Bhima lift irrigation schemes in the state. "I can't contest the elections from the state, but will always stand by the people of Telangana," he said. He added that his foremost priority would be to protect the interests of the Telugu people in both the states.
Commenting on the alliance formed by the Congress and the TDP at the national level, Naidu said that the two parties had joined hands to safeguard the interests, and the constitutional and democratic institutions, of the country. "We fought with each other for 37 years. However, we came together and joined hands to protect the interests of the country when that became a greater necessity," Naidu said.
