Hyderabad | 23rd January 2018
VI Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Dr Srinivas Rao sentenced rag-picker Patthi Narasimha, 45, resident of Prakash Nagar, Begumpet, to life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 1,000.
The judge ruled that if the convict failed to pay the fine, he would have to undergo simple imprisonment of an additional one month.
According to the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Begumpet Division, on June 16, 2015, a police patrolling van constable had informed his superiors about a foul smell that was emanating from an Indica car parked at the registration office at Prakash Nagar. Immediately a posse of police personnel rushed to the spot, and found a dead body inside the car that had no number plate.
During investigation, one Ghani identified the deceased as Padma, and told the police that Padma and her husband Narasimha, both rag-pickers, resided under a tree in the area. He also raised the suspicion that Narasimha might have had something to do with his wife's death.
The Begumpet police registered a case of murder and arrested Narasimha on July 2, 2015, after which he was sent to judicial remand.
With the prosecution successfully proving the guilt of the accused during the trial, the judge convicted the accused and sentenced him to life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 1,000.
The case was investigated by Inspector G Jagan of the Begumpet PS under the guidance of ACP S Ranga Rao and North Division DCP B Sumathi, IPS.
