The State government is optimistic that the production of food grains during the next Rabi season would be on par with, if not more than, that of the Kharif season.
The target for issuing the cooperative society loans will also be the same, said Minister for Cooperation, Labour and Employment Ramreddy Venkata Reddy.
Briefing media persons on Monday, the minister said that in the Kharif season, cooperative loans worth Rs. 7,000 crore were given away from 2004 to 2010. Between 2004 and 2009, the minister said that Rs. 2,294 crore loans were offered, and that this year alone loans worth Rs. 3,181 crore were fixed as target.
This year, Rs. 2,280 crore had been given away in loans, to meet farmers' requirement. Because of a good monsoon this year, the next Rabi season's food grain production will be better, he said.
Elections to Rural Electrification Societies will be held in Kuppam and Cheepurupally the end of this month, Mr Venkata Reddy added.
