Chief Minister Revanth Reddy today announced that Rythu Bharosa funds would be disbursed after the Sankranti festival.
Speaking to the media at his residence, the Chief Minister said that a cabinet sub-committee led by Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka had been formed to finalise the modalities of the Rythu Bharosa scheme, and that the policy would be discussed in the Assembly before implementation.
"Our Rythu Bharosa will continue uninterrupted, ensuring financial security for every farmer in Telangana," he said.
He also assured the farmers of continued support through the Rs 500 per quintal bonus for paddy procurement, and appealed to them to reject the "falsehoods" of opposition parties and place their trust in the Congress government.
"We have fulfilled our promises despite inheriting massive liabilities such as a Rs 7 lakh crore debt burden created by the previous BRS government. We cleared Rs 7,625 crore of pending Rythu Bandhu dues immediately after assuming office. We also waived Rs 20,616 crore worth of farm loans, benefitting 25,35,964 farmers in the State," he said.
The Chief Minister added that the Congress had a long legacy of prioritising farmers, with leader from former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nahru to former chief minister of united Andhra Pradesh Y S Rajasekhar Reddy espousing the farmers' causes. However, the BRS government betrayed farmers for a decade through unfulfilled promises and mismanagement of irrigation projects, he claimed. He also dismissed BJP leader Kishan Reddy's criticism, calling him a "Gujarat ghulam" with no authority to comment on Telangana's issues.
For the uninitiated, Rythu Bharosa is a welfare scheme promised by the Telangana Congress during its election campaign under which farmers will get Rs 7,500 per acre per crop season (i. e. once for Kharif and once for Rabi). It hasn't been delivered upon yet.
