At least 6 persons were killed on the spot, and 7 others injured, when the Qualis they were travelling in rammed into a roadside tree near Mamandur in Renigunta mandal on the Kadapa-Tirupati National Highway, in the wee hours of Thursday.
According to police, the victims have been identified as Venkateswarlu, Chennaiah, Buddaiah, Narayanamma, Alluraiah and car driver Ravi. All of them belonged to Prakasam district.
The victims boarded the Qualis at Errabalem (Giddalur mandal, Ongole) to attend a wedding in Tirupati. It is suspected that the accident occurred after the driver lost control of his vehicle while overtaking another vehicle at Mamandur, hitting a roadside tree.
The injured were shifted to S V R Ruia Hospital in Tirupati, and a few of them are said to be in a critical condition. (INN)
