The Congress party's Punarankitha Sabha, scheduled for May 20 to celebrate completion of a tenure of 5 years of the party's rule in the state, has been postponed, owing to the crisis promised by cyclone Laila.
All the preparations for the sabha were bought close to a conclusion at the
Lal Bahadur Stadium by Tuesday, but an announcement from the PCC chief D Srinivas Rao about the postponement bought matters to an abrupt end.
The decision was taken keeping in mind the government's need to focus its efforts on minimizing any damage by the cyclone Laila, DS said. AICC head Veerappa Moily, admitting that it was improper to have the meeting in the current scenario, ordered for it to be postponed.
The sabha was planned to be held in the Lal Bahadur Stadium from 9am to 6 pm on Thursday, where over 10,000-12,000 Congress party men, its elected representatives and political supporters were expected to take part. AICC leaders, including Moily, were also expected at the venue.
The Punarankitha Sabha was held 5 times under former Chief Minister Y S Rajashekhar Reddy. Current CM K Rosaiah will be convening the 6th.
