Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) working president and IT Minister K T Rama Rao on Monday announced that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao would support the joint opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha in the upcoming presidential election.
KTR along with other leaders left for New Delhi to represent the party in supporting the candidature of Sinha when the latter filed his nomination for the election on behalf of the combined opposition.
Speaking to the media in New Delhi after taking part in the nomination program, KTR alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was ruling like a monarch and was misusing the democratic spirit of the Constitution.
During the last eight years, the union government led by Modi had toppled democratically-elected governments in eight states and had formed the BJP governments despite not having the required strength, KTR alleged.
"Narendra Modi has ruined the democratic spirit of Constitution written by Dr B R Ambedkar, and is making a mockery of the people's mandates. He is implementing his own Constitution by misusing the enforcement agencies against the opposition parties. Definitely the day will come when the nation will revolt against the Modi government. It may start from Telangana in the days to come," KTR said.
Referring to the characters in the epic Mahabharatha, the TRS leader said that the BJP-led NDA's candidate Draupadi Murmu may be a good person by character but stood beside the Kauravas (BJP). He also pointed out that Bheeshma was a well-respected person, but faced humiliation and was killed during the Kurukshetra for supporting the Kauravas.
KTR added that he had requested Sinha to visit Hyderabad as part of his Presidential election campaign.
