The YSR Congress, on Wednesday, decided to support the candidature of UPA candidate Pranab Mukherjee for the 2012 presidential elections.
Talking to media persons after emerging from a YSRCP meeting chaired by the party's honorary president Y S Vijayamma, at the party office, Nellore MP Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy said that the party has unanimously decided to support the candidature of Pranab Mukherjee, as there were only two options available.
He said that Pranab Mukherjee would do justice and bring laurels to his post, with his vast experience in the political field.
Responding to the decision of the Telugu Desam party to abstain from voting in the presidential elections, he said that it was the decision of the Telugu Desam, and that the YSRCP has nothing to do with it. He remarked that abstaining from the presidential elections would be against the spirit of democracy.
Mekapati said that the party also took a decision to support the candidature of Hamid Ansari as the vice president of India. (INN)
