With the Movie Artists Association (MAA) elections, scheduled tentatively for September this year, inching closer every day, the Tollywood fraternity has been gripped by tensions and the race for association positions has been intensifying steadily.
In this context, veteran actor Prakash Raj's meeting with megastar Chiranjeevi has assumed great significance, especially because it is a well known fact that Raj is contesting for the post of MAA president this year and that the Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy star and his family have extended their support to the actor.
The duo reportedly met at a gym in Hyderabad today.
Talking about the meeting in a tweet, Raj stated that Chiranjeevi was trying very hard to solve the problems being faced by the Telugu film industry and that the latter had become a "role model" to several others who were trying to do the same.
He also added that he had discussed the problems facing the Telugu film industry with Chiranjeevi during their meeting. In the same post, he then went on to hint at the fact that he would emerge victorious in the upcoming elections.
The veteran actor's announcement that he would be contesting for the post had elicited strong responses within Tollywood with some pointing out that he hails from "outside" (Raj is from Karnataka). However, many others have spoke in support of the senior actor.
Apart from Raj, four other prominent members from the film fraternity, Vishnu Manchu, C V L Narasimha Rao, Hema, and Jeevitha Rajasekhar, are currently in the fray for the post of president.
