The Disciplinary Committee of the Movie Artists Association (MAA) has finally decided on a date for the body's elections.
It has been decided that the long-pending elections will be conducted on October 10.
The decision comes after many prominent MAA members of the film fraternity raised demands urging the body to decide a date for the elections - some days ago, a group of members had demanded that the body's disciplinary committee
hold the elections as soon as possible. The main issue being addressed by those hoping to get elected is the procurement of an office for the association.
Currently, those in the fray for the post of MAA president include Prakash Raj, Manchu Vishnu, Hema, Jeevitha Rajasekhar and C V L Narasimha Rao. While the number of contestants is only four right now, it is likely that this figure will increase before October.
As election fever grips the Tollywood fraternity, it has been witnessing much tension and conflict over the last couple of weeks. Though Raj's announcement that he would be contesting for the post had elicited some negative responses with many pointing out that he hails from "outside" (Raj is from Karnataka), there were others who had supported the actor.
Raj meanwhile has been busy mobilising support for himself - some days ago, he had
met megastar Chiranjeevi. The meeting assumes great importance because it is a well known fact that Chiranjeevi and his family have extended their support to the actor.
There are other MAA members though who have openly voiced their support for Manchu Vishnu.
