Several members of the Movie Artists Association (MAA) today demanded that the body's disciplinary committee hold the pending elections as soon as possible. They also urged the current MAA chairman, veteran actor Krishnam Raju, to take action against those "damaging the reputation" of the body.
A founder member of the association, Manik, said that a group of MAA members had sent letters containing the signatures of 110 members to the chairman of the disciplinary committee. He also voiced his displeasure at those levelling allegations against the incumbent MAA president Vijaya Krishna Naresh. Terming such actions "improper", he demanded that the body's chairman take action against those "maligning" the image of the association.
(The tension of the MAA elections has led to many rows within the film fraternity. Some days ago, actor Hema had
made some shocking allegations against the present president Naresh in a letter addressed to each of the 200 members of the association. It is likely that Manik is referring to this incident.)
Manik also urged the chairman to unanimously elect actor Vishnu Manchu to the post of president claiming that the actor had the support of the 110 signatories of the letter sent to the disciplinary committee.
Besides Manchu, reports suggest that four other prominent members from the film fraternity, Prakash Raj, Hema, C V L Narasimha Rao, and Jeevitha Rajasekhar, are currently in the fray for the post of president.
