Reacting sharply to the media reports that the Srikrishna Committee Report said that the Telangana region would become the epicenter of Maoist activities if the state was bifurcated, Karimnagar Congress MP Ponnam Prabhakar on Thursday demanded to know on what basis the panel had arrived at such conclusions.
Talking to media persons, the MP from Telangana demanded that the Centre order a probe against the panel members for submitting a report that he opined was full of mistakes. The probe should also reveal the rationale behind the recommendations of the committee, said Prabhakar.
The Karimnagar MP also demanded that the Centre immediately obey the orders of the Andhra Pradesh High Court, and reveal the 8th chapter of the Srikrishna Committee's report. Prabhakar said that the opinion expressed by the panel in its 8th chapter, wherein it stated that the new Telangana state would be rocked by communal violence and infested with Maoists, was just an attempt to water down the separate statehood agitation.
He added that there would be neither Naxalism nor communal tensions, and that the region would witness tremendous growth and compete with developed states on all fronts.
He said that the committee was opposed to the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, and that this was reflected in the "secret note" (the 8th chapter).
The MP also added that Justice Srikrishna had lost the poeple's respect by chairing a committee that submitted a wrong report. "The Telangana people do not believe in Justice Srikrishna and his recommendations, as it widens the rift between the Seemandhra and the Telangana regions," he said.
If the Centre has any commitment for Telangana, it should stand by to the announcement of Union Home Minister P Chidambaram made on December 9, 2009, and immediately introduce the Telangana Bill in the Parliament, stated Prabhakar.
