Telangana Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, along with Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and Telangana Legislative Council Chairman Gutha Sukender Reddy, today flagged off 40 new electric buses at the Nalgonda district headquarters.
77 electric buses have been sanctioned for Nalgonda, and 40 of them were officially launched today by the ministers.
In a surprising gesture, Venkat Reddy took the wheel and drove one of the buses from the RTC bus station to the R&B Guest House in Nalgonda town, accompanied by Prabhakar, MLAs and other leaders.
Earlier, the ministers laid the foundation stone for the construction of an automated vehicle testing station at Dandampally, near the district headquarters, to be built at a cost of Rs 8 crore.
Later, Prabhakar said that accidents often occurred due to reckless driving and lack of vehicle fitness, and that the station would help reduce such incidents. He explained that the station would assess whether a vehicle was roadworthy based on about 15 parameters, using advanced technical equipment.
He added that the government aimed to bring about a technological revolution in the transport sector, and as part of that, 17 automated testing stations were being established across Telangana, each costing Rs 8 crore.
During their visit, the ministers also laid the foundation stone for an integrated mandal office building complex to be constructed at a cost of Rs 14.70 crore at the Madugulapalli mandal headquarters in Nalgonda district. As part of their tour, they also participated in several development and inaugural programs across the district.
