Police Tell APCC Chief To Wait Until CM Is Done
The police said they would allow the Congress leaders to pay tributes to Jyotirao Phule only after CM Chandrababu Naidu first did, due to security reasons.
The Andhra Pradesh police today obstructed AP Congress Committee chief N Raghuveera Reddy and Rajya Sabha member K V P Ramachandra Rao when they came to pay floral tributes to Mahatma Jyotirao Phule at Thummalapalli Kalakshethram in Vijayawada.
The police said that they would allow the Congress leaders only after Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu paid tributes to Phule, due to security reasons.
Tension prevailed when Reddy and KVP said that they would not go back, and would leave the place only after paying tributes to Phule. The Congress leaders and accompanying workers staged a dharna sitting on the road in protest against the attitude of the police. The police then arrested the Congress leaders and shifted them to a police station.
Speaking on the occasion, the Congress leaders alleged that the actions of the police were tantamount to destroying the rights of the people in a democracy. The leaders also raised slogans against the Chief Minister and the police.
Former union minister Pallam Raju, J D Seelam, C Ramachandraiah, Kanumuri Bapiraju and others were also present.
