In a sudden twist, the Hyderabad police have accorded permission to the Telangana Jana Samithi (TJS) to conduct a public meeting at Saroor Nagar Stadium on April 29.
The police said that they had no objection if the TJS wanted to conduct its public meeting at the stadium, and asked the TJS leaders to apply for permission to the Ranga Reddy district collector, under whose purview all the stadiums fall.
For the uninitiated, Telangana JAC Chairman M Kodandaram had announced
a new political party named Telangana Jana Samithi at the beginning of the month, and said that the party would be formally launched on April 29 in a public meeting. However, the police and the Ranga Reddy district collector both did not respond to the permission the new party sought for the meeting at a stadium. That resulted in the party
approaching the Hyderabad High Court, and plenty of media coverage for
the protests supporting the TJS.
Clearly, the rising backlash has put enough pressure on the TRS government to make it retreat.
