The police foiled an attempt by Bharatiya Janata Party and Akhil Bharatiya Vidayarti Parishad (ABVP) members to hoist the Tricolour at Assembly premises on Friday to mark Telangana Liberation Day.
The BJP and ABVP members had earlier hoisted the flag at the Sardar Vallabhai Patel statue near Gun Park and then proceeded to the Assembly premises in a procession.
The police had then moved in to take the activists under custody, but not before Kishen Reddy and senior party leader Bandaru Dattatreya had a heated argument with the police for blocking them.
The activists criticized the state government for its inability to celebrate the event officially across the state.
The police arrested the BJP leaders and shifted them to Bollaram police station.
