A case has been registered against the members of the Srikrishna Committee (SKC) at the Punjagutta Police Station, by as yet unknown Telangana activists.
According to sources, police cases have been registered against the panel members under Sections 418 (cheating with knowledge that wrongful loss may ensue to person whose interest offender is bound to protect), 153 A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc., and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 505 (statements conducing public mischief).
The Nampally High Court is reported to have directed the Punjaguta police station to file the cases against the SKC members on Wednesday.
The complainants also sought the relevation of the contentious 8th Chapter of the SKC report.
For those who came in late, the Srikrishna Committee is a panel headed by Justice Srikrishna, and the committee had on 30 December 2011 submitted a voluminous detailed report on various aspects of Telangana.
Though the report did not comment upon the impact (whether positive or negative) of the bifurcation of the state, the panel's report was widely challenged as favouring a united AP.
