Telangana students activists of Osmania university began a hunger strike appealing to all parties to boycott the meeting on Srikrishna Report in New Delhi.
Stating that the meeting by itself was an exercise in futility, students of the Osmania University on Monday began a relay hunger strike demanding that political parties boycott the all-party meeting called by Union Home Minister P Chidambaram to discuss the Justice B N Srikrishna Report before it was made public on January 6th in New Delhi.
About 30 students, belonging to the OUSJAC took part in the relay hunger strike on the first day.
Talking to media persons, OUSJAC President P Ravi said that the meeting convened by Chidambaram was an attempt to delay taking any decision on the separate statehood issue.
Ravi pointed out to a similar meeting which took place on January 5th, 2010, and said that meeting had been a fruitless exercise. The January 5th, 2010, meeting had been called after the famous statement made by the Union Home Minister on December 9th, 2009.
The student leader added that political parties in the state should stay away from this meeting and instead concentrate on putting pressure on the centre to table a bill on Telangana in Parliament in the coming budget session.
OUSJAC spokesperson Nijjana Ramesh added that no report by any commission was required for the creation of a separate Telangana state since it was the aspiration of the people. Ramesh added that Chidambaram had not kept his word about the bifurcation of the state.
He said Chidambaram had convened the all-party meeting to dodge the separate statehood issue and prolong making a decision.
