The Chaitanyapuri police registered a cheating case against Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday, for allegedly reversing his decision on his poll promise on Telangana state formation.
The case was registered on the directions of the Ranga Reddy District Court, which passed orders based on a petition filed by a local advocate Janardhan.
It may be mentioned here that Janardhan had moved the court last month, seeking action against Naidu for "cheating" the people of Telangana.
Janardhan argued that the TDP had promised to work towards realizing Telangana statehood and had introduced a resolution in its party manifesto in 2009. However, the TDP cheated the 4-and-half-crore people of the region by reversing its stand, the petitioner argued.
"The violation of the election promise on a Telangana state amounts to cheating. I appeal to the court to order the filing of a cheating case against Naidu," the petitioner said.
The court had directed the Chaitanyapuri police station to register a cheating case against Naidu.
With the police ignoring the court order, the petitioner Janardhan again moved the court on Tuesday, following which a case was registered under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code. The court also asked the police to file a First Information Report against Naidu and submit it in the court.
The court also directed the police officials to explain within a week why no case was registered earlier. (INN)
