Hyderabad | 23rd December 2012
TJAC, which has declared today, 23 December, to be a Black Day for Telangana, took to the roads on a rally to Gandhi Bhavan.
Under the leadership of committee chairman Prof. M Kodandaram, and to cries of "Maata Thappina Sonia! Down, Down!", they marched on to Gandhi Bhavan to protest aginst the government on the day it went back on its decision to assign a seperate state to Telangana. Folk song-and-dance, street plays, and other performances by Telangana artists were part of the procession.
The rally, however, was stopped at some distance from Gandhi Bhavan by the police. The situation turned chaotic when the protestors tried to move ahead despite being opposed, following which they started a dharna on the road. This in turn led to heavy traffic jams, causing the police to forcibly arrest the TJAC members, including Prof. Kodandaram.
Meanwhile, Black Day is being observed throught the Telangana districts in the state, with protestors threatening the govt. and other parties with downfall if a favourable decision was taken at least during the all-party meeting to be conducted on the 28th of this month.
