Former minister S Niranjan Reddy today reacted to the defection of former Assembly Speaker and BRS MLA from Banswada Pocharam Srinivas Reddy to the ruling Congress and termed it as shameful.
Niranjan Reddy said that Pocharam owed his entire stature in politics to the BRS. "In 2012, when Pocharam resigned as MLA and contested again demanding statehood for Telangana, we all ensured his victory. He won again as MLA in 2014 as the BRS candidate, and was made the first Agriculture Minister of Telangana State by us. After winning the 2019 elections, we made him the Speaker. The government accepted all the works for the development of his constituency as soon as he asked for them. Former CM KCR had given him permission to build as many double-bedroom houses in the Banswada constituency as in his own constituency," Niranjan Reddy said.
He added that although Pocharam was reluctant to contest the Assembly elections this time due to his old age, the BRS gave him a ticket and ensured his victory.
"It is not clear how after all that Pocharam is now defecting to the Congress. The Telangana society is confused by such people. KCR gave him the highest honours as an agriculture minister and a Speaker. His son was given the opportunity to be a DCCB chairman. KCR praised Pocharam as Lakshmiputra in public meetings and the internal meetings of the party. I don't understand why he acted so harshly and ruthlessly. It is painful to do this when the party is in a difficult stage," he added.
