Peddapalli Zilla Parishad Chairman Putta Madhukar, who had been missing since the night of April 30, was taken into custody by the Ramagundam police in Andhra Pradesh's Bhimavaram. He was then brought back to the Ramagundam commissionerate office today.
The police had reportedly used the location of his cell phone to track him.
A statement released by the police following the arrest said that the official was currently being questioned about why he had disappeared for the last week or so.
This is the second time Madhukar is being interrogated by the police. He was also questioned following the
gruesome murder of advocate couple Gattu Vamana Rao and P V Nagamani that took place this February. Since then, one Bittu Srinu and three others have been
arrested in connection with murders.
The incident had brought the ZP Chairman much bad press especially since one of the main accused, Bittu Srinu, is his nephew. This was only intensified by TPCC head N Uttam Kumar Reddy's
hinting at the TRS leader's involvement in the matter.
While his role in the killings remains unclear, many believe that Madhukar went missing after the alleged land encroachment of former Health Minister Etala Rajender came to light.
The leader's Manthani-based support base is yet to react to the arrest.
