Parliamentary Panel To Discuss Rape Cases
Sensiting the police machinery, setting up of fast-track courts, in-camera trial, amendments in Evidence Act, and death sentence for rape convicts are the major issues that are likely to be discussed in the meeting.
The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs will meet in New Delhi on December 27 to discuss the increase in cases of crime against women, especially rapes across the country.
Besides discussing the recent case of gang-rape of a paramedic in New Delhi, the Committee will discuss other cases of crimes against women. Later, it will make suggestions or measures to be taken for the prevention of such crimes besides the enactment of, or amendments in, laws.
Talking to reporters here, Committee's Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu informed that the Delhi Police Commissioner and the Union Home Secretary would also attend the meeting. He said that all 30 members of the Committee, who represent different parties, have expressed concern when the issue of the Delhi gang-rape was discussed in the Parliament, and are expected to take part in the meeting.
