The state government has resolved to bring in a full-fledged legislation in order to put an end to the irregularities in the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MG-NREGS).
Along with the legislation, the N Kiran Kumar Reddy government has also decided to create a separate finance corporation to strengthen the women's self-help groups, which have been reeling under the pressures from microfinance institutions in the rural areas.
These 2 important decisions were taken at the state Secretariat on Monday at a review meeting on the subject. Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy chaired the meeting.
The Chief Minister has instructed the officials concerned to take stock of the situation in view of certain irregularities that had come to his notice, and has ordered them to take steps to plug the loop-holes.
Rural Development Minister Dokka Manikya Varaprasad and Women's Development And Child Welfare Minister V Sunitha Lakshma Reddy, who were part of the aforesaid review committee, told media persons later that the government has resolved to take action against the erring officials who were responsible for the tardy implementation of the MG-NREGS in the state.
The ministers also disclosed that Mahila Councils, comprising experts from the government and the civil society, would be constituted to oversee the implementation process in every mandal.
The Chief Minister also directed that cement and concrete roads be laid in all the SC, ST colonies on priority, the ministers disclosed. (INN)
