Palvai Sravanthi Is Congress Candidate For Munugodu By-Election
The Telangana Congress has decided to field the daughter of former MP and minister Palvai Govardhan Reddy as its candidate for the upcoming Munugodu by-election.
The Telangana Congress has decided to field party leader Palvai Sravanthi, daughter of former Rajya Sabha MP and former minister Palvai Govardhan Reddy, as its candidate for the upcoming by-election for the Munugodu Assembly constituency's Assembly seat.
The TPCC had forwarded the names of four persons to the AICC, and had urged it to select a candidate from among them. The four persons were Palvai Sravanthi, Krishna Reddy, Palle Ravi Kumar and Kailas Neta. The party high command favoured Sravanthi, who had also topped the survey conducted by the party for its candidate.
Sravanthi had contested as the Congress candidate for the same constituency in the 2014 Assembly elections, and had faced defeat. She dropped out of the ticket race voluntarily in the 2018 Assembly elections after the former MLA Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy had expressed his desired to contest for the same seat. She worked for the victory of Reddy in the elections.
The loyalty of Sravanthi to the party also helped the decision.
With the declaration of Sravanthi as the Congress candidate, the names of two candidates are public now. Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy is already contesting as the candidate of the BJP. The TRS has not yet declared the name of its candidate. Party president and CM KCR is adopting a cautious approach on the issue, and is expected to declare the name of the party's candidate in a day or two.
