The Telangana government today officially observed the death anniversary of former Prime Minister P V Narasimha Rao.
Minister for Animal Husbandry Talasani Srinivas Yadav visited P V Ghat and paid floral tributes to the Telangana luminary on the occasion of his 18th death anniversary.
Speaking on the occasion, Yadav said that Rao was a great statesman, intellectual par excellence and polyglot, who had introduced modern economic reforms to India paving the way for making the country turning into one of the largest economies in the world.
He said that it was a matter of pride for Telangana that PV was its very own son, and that the State government had conducted year-long birth centenary celebrations keeping that in mind.
On behalf of the government, he demanded that the union government confer the Bharat Ratna on Rao.
The AP unit of the Congress too observed the death anniversary of the former prime minister, at Andhra Ratna Bhavan in Vijayawada.
Party leaders paid floral tributes at a portrait of Rao, and recalled the services rendered by him during his rule. Vijayawada Congress president Narahara Shetty, APCC legal cell chairman V Gurunatham and PCC secretary Meda Suresh also took part in the program.
In Haryana, Governor Bandaru Dattatreya paid tributes to Rao in the Haryana Raj Bhavan in Chandigarh.
Speaking on the occasion, Dattatreya said that Rao would always be remembered for his ideals and his contributions to the nation as Prime Minister and to the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh as its Chief Minister.
