Amidst tension over the Osmania University students' planned "beef festival" on December 10, the police on Thursday took Goshamahal BJP MLA Raja Singh into preventive custody at his house.
He was later shifted to the office of the Assistant Commissioner of Police at Goshamahal.
It may be mentioned here that the BJP legislator, who is a staunch cow-protection leader, had declared that he would prevent the planned beef festival by the OU students at any cost.
Raja Singh asserted that he was not opposing the beef festival for political gains, and that nothing would happen due to his arrest by the police.
Singh said that the beef festival should not be organized at a sacred place like the Osmania University where students are taught and groomed into the future leaders of the country.
He also slammed State BJP president G Kishen Reddy for being silent on the decision of the OU students.
Meanwhile, a number of BJP workers in the area attempted to barge into the ACP's office.
