On Friday, Osmania University Vice-Chancellor Prof S Satyanarayana asked all the principals of the constituent and affiliated colleges of OU to step up and implement a slew of measures to check the menace of ragging in the respective colleges.
Speaking after the release of the Anti-Ragging Poster, he said that the academic bodies like UGC have been issuing periodic guidelines regarding the rules and regulations that need to be implemented to put an end to ragging.
He also said that the personal vigilance of the teachers and administrative staff of the institutions concerned helps in this regard. "The principals should try to establish a harmonious climate on the campuses of their respective colleges," he said.
Prof K Pratap Reddy, Director, Directorate of Academic Audit, Osmania Univeristy, said that for the last two years no case of ragging has been reported. He suggested all the principals to constitute Anti-Ragging committees comprising of student advisor, student representative and a representative from police department. he suggested that the principal of the respective college can be the chairman of this committee.
He said that it is mandatory to conduct three meetings every year with the sole purpose of creating awareness, among students, against ragging.
Prof B Laxmaiah, Dean of Student Affairs, OU, said that the details of the steps taken to check ragging should be well-documented. He suggested that the colleges maintain a calendar of events happening on the respective campuses.
Prof M S N Reddy, OU's Registrar, said that every opportunity should be used to educate students and to warn them not to resort to ragging. He suggested that the Anti-Ragging posters should also be displayed on the campuses. (INN)
