Some 250 junior doctors and house surgeons in the Osmania General Hospital boycotted duties except emergency services from Sunday night after the relatives of a patient attacked their colleague breaking his arm.
They are demanding security for themselves and action against those involved in the attack.
According to the information received, a 70-year-old woman brought in a critical condition died at the ICU. Alleging that the patient died due to the negligence of the doctors, four of her relatives barged into the ICU and attacked them.
The junior doctors lodged a complaint with the Afzalgunj police and demanded the arrest of the accused. In addition, the Telangana Junior Doctors' Association (TJUDA) called for a strike to protest against the rising number of attacks on doctors.
This was the fourth such incident in the OGH in one month. The association demanded that security personnel be deployed and CCTV cameras installed in all the wards of the hospitals.
