Barring MIM, the entire opposition walked out from the Telangana Assembly accusing the government of failing to fill 1.07 lakh vacancies.
Barring MIM, the entire opposition staged a walk-out from the Telangana Legislative Assembly on Tuesday accusing the state government of having failed to fill over 1.07 lakh vacancies in different government departments.
The Congress, BJP, CPI and CPI-M members were not satisfied with the reply given by Finance Minister Etela Rajender during Question Hour on the status of the recruitment process wherein he blamed the central government for the delay.
In his reply to the question raised by Congress MLA G Chinna Reddy and others, the Finance Minister contended that the allocation of employees of the two successor states was still pending with the Government of India.
"Definite number of vacancies will be known only after the completion of the allocation. However, as per the provisional allocation of the posts and employees between the successor states, a total of 107,744 tentative vacancies are available in all government departments including promotional posts and honorarium-based posts like Home Guards and Anganwadi workers. Necessary action is being taken to obtain the direct recruitment vacancies in respect of local, district, zonal and multizonal categories from all government departments," said Etela .
Giving further details, Etela said nearly 70% of the posts were promotional, and the rest are direct. They included:
Class-IV - 12,610
Home guards - 4,986
Police drivers - 3,620
Other jobs in the police department - 3,137
732 posts through the Employment Exchange, and
1,314 district-level posts
He said that the process for the recruitment of 1,238 engineers in the Panchayat Raj department and for 3,200 posts in the police department had already been set in motion.
While there were nearly 1.16 lakh employees in SCCL once, currently its strength was 65,000.
As per the Census, Etela said, there were nearly 20 lakh unemployed youth in Telangana. While the state government would provide jobs to about one lakh youth, self-employment opportunities would be created for the others.
He assured that steps would be taken to conduct the recruitment tests in Urdu, too, and that Muslims would be given the ongoing 4% reservation in all recruitments.
The opposition members were however not satisfied with the minister's reply. Leader of the Opposition K Jana Reddy, BJP floor leader G Kishan Reddy, MIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi, CPI MLA Ravindra Kumar and legislators slammed the government for delaying the recruitment process. They also pulled up the government for not taking steps to regularise the contract workers, as promised during the elections.
Later, except the MIM, all the parties staged a walk out-on the issue. (INN)
