Retirement Age Of Govt Employees To Stay 58: Etela
Finance Minister Etela Rajender said several educated unemployed youth were waiting to join the government, and so the retirement age could not be increased.
Finance Minister Etela Rajender on Thursday told the Telangana Legislative Assembly that the State Government had no plans to enhance the retirement age of the government employees.
Replying to a question raised by MLAs A Gandhi and T Prakash Goud during the Question Hour, the minister informed that there were 523,677 government jobs in the State. Of them, 415,931 employees including Work Charged, Contingent, Grant-in-Aid, Contract and Honorarium employees were working in the government.
Currently, there were 107,744 vacancies in the government, he informed, and said that the bifurcation of Central Government employees was going on, and after the completion of this process, the State Government would take measures to fill the vacancies.
The minister said that about 8,000 to 10,000 employees were likely to retire this year. He stated that several educated unemployed youth were waiting to join the government services, and therefore the retirement age of the existing employees could not be increased. (INN)
