All opposition parties have unanimously demanded the convening of an Assembly session, although for different reasons.
Participating in the meeting of Floor leaders held by AP State Legislative Speaker Nadendla Manohar in Hyderabad on Monday, the representatives of all opposition parties requested the Speaker to convene the session to discuss issues concerning the people in the state.
Talking to reporters after the meeting, TDP Deputy Floor Leader Gali Muddukrishnamma Naidu said that an Assembly session should be convened to discuss the outbreak of diseases, especially dengue and other vector-borne, in the state. He said that the last session held in June could not be counted as a regular session as it was only a day long.
Gali also slammed the state government for delaying the constitution of a House Committee to probe the allotment of nearly 1.70 lakh acres of lands in the state for various purposes.
He said that the had government promised it almost 7 months ago. He also demanded that allotments done during the Congress regime from 2004 till now should be probed.
TRS floor leader Etela Rajender also demanded that the Assembly session be convened to discuss public health, especially in the Telangana region.
He alleged that the PAC and PECs were not working properly. He also accused Speaker Nadendla Manohar of taking advantage of his position and not understanding the feelings of people in the Telangana region.
Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Y Lakshminarayana, too, raised the issue of the delay in constituting the House Committee to probe land allotments. However, he admitted that the Speaker did ask all the parties to submit the names of the representatives to be included in the proposed committee by 10 November.
Lok Satta MLA Jayprakash Narayan also demanded that the state government order a probe into the misuse of official funds and take stern action against the culprits.
He said that public representatives should be given information on the misuse under the RTI Act within 3 days.
He also urged that the CBI extend its probe into Emaar. He demanded that the Assembly be convened to discuss issues concerned with the general public.
The Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen was represented by Charminar MLA Ahmed Pasha Quadri, who did not speak to the media.
Later, Finance Minister Anam Ram Narayana Reddy said that the government is firm on its commitment on the constitution of a House Committee on land allotments. He said that the government would soon come out with all the details related to land allotments, including the activities at Special Economic Zones. (INN)
