House Adjourned Again On 8th Day
The state Assembly was adjourned on the 8th day, too, due to the vociferous protests by opposition members.
Hyderabad | 27th February 2011
For the 8th straight day on Saturday, the state Assembly was forced to adjourn without transacting any business amidst noisy scenes and protests by the opposition members belonging to TRS, BJP, TDP, CPI and the CPM, besides some members of the ruling party.
The adamant opposition, particularly the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), did not allow Deputy Speaker Nadendla Manohar to conduct the listed and scheduled business on the 8th day of the session.
As soon as the House assembled for the day, the TRS, the Communist Party of India (CPI) and Communist Party of India (Marxist), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) members demanded that the Deputy Speaker Nadendla Manohar allow debate on their adjournment motions on various issues.
The TRS sought discussions on the Telangana issue, the BJP on weavers' problems, while the TDP demanded that the alleged police-attack on innocent citizens at the Ottithandra Thermal Project be discussed.
Following their insistence on the discussion on Telangana, the House was adjourned for a short break. After resumption of the proceedings, the TRS members dashed towards the Speaker's podium raising slogans in favour of a declaration on Telangana in the House.
The Telangana members from the TDP and the Congress extended support raising slogans from their respective seats.
At this point, the House was adjourned for a second time for a short break. Earlier, the Deputy Speaker repeatedly asked the Opposition to maintain calm and cooperate with the Chair.
After the House met again, Government Chief Whip Bhatti Vikramarka sought cooperation from the members to remain calm and allow for a discussion to take place so that all can discuss on the Telangana issue.
Vikramarka rued saying, "Lakhs of rupees are spent towards conducting the House, but members choose to discuss the subject outside instead of participating in a debate on the Floor of the House."
At one stage, the indignant Deputy Speaker Nadendla Manohar was heard saying it was 'depressing' to find the same trend daily without any change in the routine walk-outs and protests.
3 Congress members Kista Reddy, Muthyam Reddy and Narsa Reddy, besides Somaram Satyanarayana (independent), supported the TRS agenda.
The House was thereafter adjourned after Vikramarka’s pleas went unheeded.
