Leader of the Opposition K Jana Reddy strongly condemned the suspension of ten TDP MLAs for the entire budget session of the Telangana Legislative Assembly on Monday.
Speaking in the House on Monday, Jana Reddy said that Speaker S Madhusudan Chary should take stern action against the MLAs who disrespected the National Anthem. However, taking action against all the legislators on the basis of selective footage was wrong.
He alleged that the TRS government was trying to weaken the opposition parties by suppressing factual information on what exactly happened in the House during the Governor's address on March 7.
Reddy said that suspending almost all members of an opposition party for the entire session was wrong.
He urged the government to revoke the suspension by reducing it to one or two days.
The Bharatiya Janata Party too strongly opposed the TDP members' suspension for the entire session. BJP floor leader Dr K Lakshman appealed to the Speaker to review the footage by convening an all-party meeting.
He said that while the disrespect towards the National Anthem was not tolerable, the members should be given an opportunity to tender an apology if they had really disrespected the National Anthem.
He said that the suspension of almost all members of an opposition party on mere suspicion would set a wrong precedent.
Later, the BJP members staged a walk-out from the House after the government refused to revoke the suspension. (INN)
