The newly appointed Governor of Telangana Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan is also Tamilian like her predecessor E S L Narasimhan.
She is a medical doctor and had worked as an assistant professor at Ramachandra Medical College before foraying into politics.
She shot into being a top BJP leader of Tamil Nadu within a short time.
Soundararajan was born on June 2, 1961, in Nagarkoil of Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu. She is the daughter of Kumari Anandan, a former MP and a veteran Congress leader. Her husband is Dr Soundararajan, also a prominent doctor and member of the Indian Medical Research Council.
Soundararajan completed her MBBS at the Madras Medical College, and PG in gynecology from the MGR University of Health Sciences. She later underwent a special training in sonology at Canada.
Although she belonged to a family of Congress leaders, she joined the BJP attracted by its ideals, and worked in many capacities. In 2001 she became the State general secretary of the health wing of the party, and in 2005, all-India co-convenor of the medical wing for the southern States. She was made the State party secretary in 2007, and national general secretary in 2013. She is now the Tamil Nadu BJP president.
Soundararajan lost in all her attempts at becoming an MP or even MLA till date, so her latest posting is indeed a jackpot for her.
Soundararajan is likely to assume office on Tuesday.
