The Central Bureau Of Investigation is planning to seek the extension of custody of former Karnataka Minister Gali Janardhan Reddy, for further probe into the Obulapuram Mining Corporation case.
Sources say that the CBI may file a petition in the Special CBI Court on Monday, seeking extension of custody for one more week.
The court, on 13 September, had granted the
CBI custody of Gali and OMC Managing Director B V Srinivas Reddy till 19 September.
Meanwhile, the CBI is reportedly planning to take Janardhan Reddy to Bellary on Monday to open bank lockers belonging to him and his family members. These lockers are likely to yield more evidence on OMC's alleged illegal activities.
The CBI has been spurred on by the treasures it found in Srinivas Reddy's bank lockers in Bellary. The officials were reportedly shocked to learn that at the Axis Bank branch in Bellary, Gali's men had occupied almost 200 of the 350 lockers. 10 lockers belonged to the Gali family, including his wife and children.
In the 6 lockers which the CBI had opened on Saturday, it found nearly 15 kgs of gold, some platinum jewellery, and Rs. 3 crore in cash.
"Most of the gold is in the form of imported gold biscuits and ornaments from Dubai," they said.
Sources say that OMC Managing Director B V Srinivas Reddy is cooperating with the CBI, but that Gali is proving to be a tough nut. He is learnt to have recognized his own signatures on some documents shown to him.
Besides seeking the extension of custody, the CBI is also planning to conduct polygraph and narco analysis tests on Gali Janardhana Reddy, Srinivas Reddy and 3 others. (INN)
