Nobel Laureate To Join Telangana Rising Advisory Board
Prof Abhijit Banerjee met CM Revanth Reddy, and discussed urban development, economic growth, fiscal discipline and job creation.

Winner of the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences (the Nobel Prize in Economics), Prof Abhijit Banerjee, today met Chief Minister Revanth Reddy in Hyderabad.
He discussed several ideas related to urban development, economic growth, augmenting public revenues, fiscal discipline, large-scale skilling and job creation.
The Nobel laureate also accepted the Chief Minister's invitation to join the illustrious and globally renowned list of Advisors on the Telangana Rising Vision Board.
Prof Banerjee said that for mass job creation there was a need to design unique short-term courses in traditional skills with modern design elements, marketing strategies, and the use of social media technologies to help traditional artisans transform into modern entrepreneurs. He also suggested that crafts, arts and creativity be included as a significant part of the Bharat Future City.
During the discussions, Prof Banerjee also expressed great appreciation for the efforts of the Chief Minister Revanth Reddy - particularly the recruitment of transgender individuals into the police and municipal departments, envisioning Hyderabad's core urban area within the ORR as a pure-services zone, and the creation of a skills and a sports university.
The Chief Minister outlined Hyderabad's global vision and the worldwide reach of products made in the region, and stressed the need to create global awareness of them. He also elaborated on various empowerment programs for women self-help groups, youth and farmers.
IT and Industries Minister Sridhar Babu, Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao, Finance Secretary Sandeep Kumar Sultania, Hyderabad Commissioner of Police C V Anand, and other officials participated in the discussions.
