GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar said that the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation will see that no dangerous and hazardous industries are situated in residential areas.
This was in the context of a fire that recently broke out in a timber depot in Musheerabad.
The Commissioner said that a GHMC team led by the Commissioner himself had rushed to the accident spot. He further said that the GHMC will conduct a survey of industries where there is no space for vehicular moment in case of an accident, and cancel all trade licenses given to them. He said that no trade licenses will be given to industries in such areas.
He further requested the general public to bring information regarding hazardous industries in their surroundings (residential areas) to the GHMC through its 24/7 call centre (155304).
Somesh Kumar said that in today's Prajavani program that 56 grievances have been received out of which 42 are new cases and remaining are old. More than 80% of the cases are from the Town Planning wing, he said.
The Commissioner said that there is every need to reduce complaints pertaining to Town Planning in the coming days.
The Commissioner said that the GHMC is concentrating on a comprehensive road development project with a plan to take up road repairing works duly providing drains, medians and ducts for laying cables and footpaths. He said that the proposal would be placed before the next Standing Committee to accord sanction to take up the works on priority, as most of the roads have been very badly damaged and need immediate repairs. Rs. 250 crore worth of works under Phase-1 will be taken up after the approval of the Standing Committee, he stated.
Somesh Kumar said that directions have already been given to engineers to furnish a detailed report on damaged roads. The Commissioner said that reports are yet to be received pertaining the causes of the damaged roads so that the works can be taken up to avoid problems faced earlier.
The Commissioner further stated that Rs. 50 lakhs have been sanctioned for 24 engineering divisions for road repair works, and that the GHMC would also provide additional funds based on the requirement of a particular engineering division. (INN)
