As per the instructions of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar directed the concerned officials to expedite the process of providing free drinking water to the residents of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) area.
Kumar held a review meeting with Principal Secretary (Municipal Administration and Urban Development) Arvind Kumar, Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) MD Dana Kishore, GHMC Commissioner Lokesh Kumar and CDMA Dr N Satyanarayana, at the BRKR Bhavan today.
The CS instructed the HMWS&SB to complete the process of seeding the Aadhar cards of the area's residents with PTIN and CAN numbers to improve water supply, and to prioritise the uncovered and slum areas of the GHMC.
At the meeting, he also instructed the officials to prepare an action plan to complete the construction of the 2-BHK houses being built for Telangana's poor and homeless people, and to develop tree parks in all the wards of the municipal areas across the state.
Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister K T Rama Rao
had launched the state government's much-publicised free drinking water scheme for the people residing in the GHMC area, on January 12. Under the scheme, households whose water consumption is below 20,000 litres per month will no longer have to pay any water bills. The program is expected to benefit about 9 lakh families in the GHMC area.
