Saturday's Assembly session came to an end without addressing the no-confidence motion.
Enraged, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) President N Chandrababu Naidu met Governor E S L Narasimhan on Saturday evening to convince him to address the no-confidence motion. Naidu explained that he had first filed a notice on June 2nd, and as politicos had raised doubts that it might not be valid due to some legalities, he had addressed yet another notice to the Assembly on Saturday morning.
Pointing out that the law requires a no-confidence motion to be discussed within 10 days of its being moved, Naidu condemned the government for not responding to the notice served.
He stated that the Congress is over-confident because of its victory in the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker elections, and that the ruling party was citing its victory as the proof that the Assembly did have confidence in the Congress.
The TDP chief also lambasted YSR Congress Party President Y S Jaganmohan Reddy for having his party members vote in favour of the Congress during the Speaker and Deputy Speaker elections.
"Jagan declared that the government was at his mercy, and that the Congress would be toppled if he so desires, but he supported the Congress today," said Naidu.
TDP leaders had, even before the elections, stated that they considered Jagan a Congress man even though he has set up his own party and competed against the Congress in the Kadapa by-elections. This opinion of the TDP was reportedly further strengthened after the YSR Congress Party supported the ruling party on Saturday morning.
