After the Nampally CBI Court
heard a petition filed by rebel YSR Congress Party MP Kanumuru Raghu Rama Krishna Raju seeking the cancellation of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jaganmohan Reddy's bail last month, the court held another hearing on the matter again today.
It had earlier issued notices to both Jagan and the CBI. However, neither the CM nor the CBI filed their counter-affidavits after receiving the notices.
At today's hearing, the counsel representing the CM appealed to the court to grant him more time for the filing of the counter affidavit.
Agreeing with the appeal, the court gave the leader and the CBI ten additional days to complete the filing process. The next hearing on the petition will be held on May 17.
The hearings are being held because Raju filed a petition that sought to revoke the CM's bail, citing the fact that the CBI had registered 11 charge sheets against the CM in the disproportionate assets case filed against him and that the latter was the prime accused in every single case. He also claimed that the CM would use his bail to exert influence to sway the outcome of the cases filed against him.
The MP himself has been in legal trouble after the CBI booked cases against him and members of his family, who are the directors of the company Ind Bharath Power Gencom Limited. The cases were booked under sections 120-B (r/w with 420), 467, 478, and 471 of the IPC for offences relating to conspiracy, cheating, forgery of valuable security, using forged documents as genuine, and criminal misconduct of a public servant.
The case was booked after Deputy General Manager of the SAMB SBI branch (Chennai), S Ravichandran, filed a complaint against the rebel leader on March 23, alleging that Ind Bharath and its directors, and some public servants had cheated the bank of Rs 237.84 crore.
