The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation will spend Rs. 153.38 crores on various developmental projects (whose foundation stones will be laid by Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Saturday).
The GHMC will spend Rs. 43.48 crores on the first phase of the project directed at improving the 7.45 km stretch of the Old Mumbai highway, from Tolichowki to Gachibowli. This includes Rs. 5 crores towards land acquisition and utility shifting.
As many as 243 properties will be affected due to this project, which is likely to be completed in a span of 24 months. Through this project, the GHMC proposes to develop the Old Bombay road from Tolichowki to Gachbowli, in order to cater to the local traffic.
Similarly, Rs. 35 crores will be spent on renovating the road from Botanical Garden to Old Mumbai Road via Masjid Banda village.
As many as 164 properties, and about one kilometre of forest-land from Botanical Garden to Sriramnagar Basthi will be affected as a result of the construction of this 3.8 km stretch of road.
Scheduled to be completed in 24 months, this road will form a major link between Hi-tech city and the Old Bombay road, which will effectivley ease traffic on the Kondapur main road.
A total amount of Rs. 45.90 crores will be spent for the construction of a flyover at Tolichowki junction. The length of the flyover will be 650 metres, and 55 properties will be affected due to the project.
The flyover will have 38 spans. It will be a split flyover with a three-lane carriage way on either side. The project is expected to be completed within 18 months.
At present, the Tolichowki junction is carrying 15,000 PCUs or PCEs (Passenger Car Equivalent), causing regular traffic jams. The construction of the flyover will ease the congestion at Tolichowki junction, and will reduce the travel-time for traffic from Mehdipatnam to Gachibowli and Hitech City, and vice-versa. (INN)
