Telangana TDP working president A Revanth Reddy today claimed that the procedure adopted by the Telangana government to create new districts was unscientific and unreasonable as six out of the 27 proposed districts had a population of 15 lakhs each, while the remaining districts had a population of 40 lakhs each, which would create an imbalance in the allocation and usage of development funds.
Addressing a press conference, Reddy said, "How does the government plan on implementing welfare schemes for districts with such a high population density? It would be wiser to delimit the districts with a higher population density into smaller districts, while keeping the districts with smaller populations intact."
Reddy alleged that some of the new districts were being created only to improve the TRS' representation in Telangana, and to benefit the Party's sponsors and henchmen.
He also questioned Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao's rationale behind delimiting Warangal and Hanamkonda. He advised against delimiting the two towns as they were "historically significant" to the State's people.
He also said that KCR should start carving out the new districts only after the State Assembly constituencies were re-constituted.
TDP official spokesperson Satish Madiga and Achampet TDP leader Charakonda Venkatesh were also present during Reddy's speech.
