The all-party delegation formed to push for action on the alleged Nerella police atrocity incident today met Telangana Director General of Police Anurag Sharma and urged him to file an SC/ST Atrocities case against Sircilla SP Vishwajith as the state government had itself admitted that the police had committed a mistake in regard to the Nerella incident.
Delegation leaders Bhatti Vikramarka (Congress), Chada Venkat Reddy (CPI) and A Revanth Reddy (TDP), and others met the DGP at his office and submitted a memorandum.
Speaking to the media later, TPCC working president Bhatti Vikramarka said that they had asked the DGP why the department hadn't pro-actively filed an SC/ST Atrocities case against Vishwajith.
"We asked the DGP to file cases against all the policemen concerned immediately," he said.
CPI state secretary Chada Venkat Reddy criticized the government for failing to initiate action against the police even though 40 days had passed after the incident. Dalits had no protection in IT minister K T Rama Rao's own constituency, and the victims would get justice only when the government suspended Vishwajith, he said.
Telangana TDP working president Revanth Reddy said that the state government was trying to escape from the Nerella incident by suspending underling CCS SI Ravinder though the victims had lodged a complaint against the Sircilla SP. He said that the all-party delegation had also asked the DGP how KTR could announce the suspension of SI without any relation with police. "It shows that the police working for the pleasure of KTR," he said, and asked the DGP to initiate action against the police without succumbing to the political pressures, and the police to work for the sake of people.
He also asked the government why it had failed to file a case against the sand lorry owner.
